Ethiopian Satellite Preschools In Hiddi & Dillu (COMPETITION)

Project Overview

The design proposal is in a context of underdeveloped education system, low literacy and low participation rate as well as early drop out. This project aims to flourish the fresh young brains to be explorers, so that they can always find their way anywhere in any situation, even if they can’t continue their study.
Materialization of such vision is done by creating “Learning Pathways” for the children to wander throughout the entire site, where learning process is about exploring. After entering the school premises, the children first reach the assembly area from where different paths branches out. Each path is designed to be interesting using different elements and will guide them to certain learning outcome. The paths are: Natural elements & vegetation, Science & Mathematics, Arts & Crafts, Sports, and Farming. The multifunctional space is placed at the center of the Learning Pathways to ensure interaction with society for them to see the children’s potentiality & be interested in education.
“Go and Explore Yourself” is our basic concept. We believe that using this modular, free flowing circulation space with learning paths, we can help the target children to learn through Exploring.
